About Us

Brotherhood

Our members come from all corners of the United States, from New Hampshire to Florida; from California to Washington, Texas, and North Carolina. This combination of backgrounds provides us with a diverse atmosphere in the house. Over the years, this has become one of the chapter's most prized characteristics. Together as a fraternity, we are proud of the fact that there is no “typical brother”. Simply put, the diversity of our brotherhood is what makes it strong, unique, and incomparable.

Philanthropies

Our most recent philanthropic endeavor has been our involvement with Habitat for Humanity. Together, along with other local organizations, we contributed to the construction of a home for a deserving family here in Lafayette.

In addition to Habitat for Humanity, every semester our chapter hosts its own philanthropic event. Phi Kappa Sigma’s national philanthropy is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, a voluntary health organization. In past semesters, we have held the “Leisure” Olympics and the Couch Sit Competition benefitting this national organization. Currently, we’re in the process of revamping and bringing back or annual benefit concert.

Moreover, we value our participation in various other philanthropic events such as: Delta Gamma’s Anchor Splash, benefiting Service for Sight; Zeta Tau Alpha’s Big Man on Campus benefiting Breast Cancer awareness; and Alpha Phi’s Ivy Man, benefiting the American Heart Association.

Other campus philanthropies we’re involved in include: Gamma Phi Beta Sorority’s 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority’s “Alpha Gam Cup” Soccer Tournament, and Trykes for Tykes sponsored by Kappa Alpha Theta and Phi Kappa Psi.

Although we like to have fun, we take academics seriously. We encourage brothers to excel beyond just the university average. In order to help facilitate this academic success, we provide brothers with a number of resources, one of which is study tables. Study tables is a program that we utilize to provide members with a quiet and productive study environment during various times throughout the week. Here, brothers can converse quietly with one another about a class or seek assistance from our house server which contains an ever increasing number of old exams, homeworks, projects, and class notes that brothers have saved from previous semesters.

Activities and Socials

The house hosts various activities for the brothers to participate in. We enjoy our alumnae golf tournament during the fall, which is a great time to reconnect with alumni and do some networking. Another brother favorite is our annual trip to West Virginia. Every fall break, around mid-October, the brother’s organize a camping trip to West Virginia for the ultimate “mancation” of camping, hiking, and class five rafting on the Upper Gauley River.

Our house is designed to create “men of skulls,” which is a title that comes with numerous responsibilities upon becoming a brother. We impart on our new members values of knowledge, wisdom, honor, integrity, trust, respect, and responsibility. The implication of these values does not stop at the end of pledgeship; rather, members maintain these values by holding offices within the house, participating in philanthropies, and through participation in other campus organizations.

Sports

Whether it’s playing a laid back game on our basketball court out front or competing against other houses in the interfraternity leagues, our brothers are having fun and staying active. Many of us are involved in intramural sports leagues such as flag football, basketball and soccer, while others take up golf and racquetball. Several brothers are also involved in club teams competing in street hockey and water polo.

Some sports include: Softball, Flag Football, Soccer, Swimming, Golf, Tennis, Racquetball, Badminton, Volleyball, and Basketball

Campus involvement:

Phi Kappa Sigma brothers are involved in various campus organizations, groups, and clubs including: ROTC, the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, intramural sports, and other honors organizations. Other brothers are undergraduate teaching assistants for introductory level courses.
